Have eaten here every time we visit and stay on the island. Aesthetically the pub can't be faulted, but our meal yesterday was abysmal. We ordered the salmon fishcakes with hollandaise sauce, baby roasted potatoes, peas and spinach. When our meal arrived the waitress clearly noticed the look of horror on my face! The 'baby roasted potatoes' were soggy and glistening with oil, and tasted awful, nothing like roasted potatoes I'd make at home! The fish cake was small, but tasty, there was a spoonful of peas you'd dish up for a five year old and no spinach! I felt embarrassed to then leave my seat to tell the waitress there was no spinach on our plates! She was very efficient and immediately dashed into the kitchen, returning to tell us they'd run out of spinach , so offered us a bowl of potato fries, which we gladly accepted, but they were terrible too. What a shame and what an absolute shambles. What on earth is going on in that kitchen of yours ? The food used to be lovely! This is the third time I've experienced shoddy food. I am so fed up and embarassed of complaining to staff that we have decided not to return and to pay more elsewhere for decent food. What a shame as we really like the pub!

The Crab is a pub with brilliant food. The staff are so friendly and accommodating. I live on the island and my family walk the island especially a couple of days after Christmas. This year 18 + me had lunch there. As usual nobody eats the same, but all of our meals came within minutes of each other and all were brilliant. Well recommended.Thank you to all the staff. Happy New Year, keep up the excellent service.

In from America to spend the holidays with friends. Came to Isle of Wight for the day. Stopped in here at 4:00 pm to warm up with a hot drink only to find that the hot chocolate machine was broken, the cola machine was broken, the coffee machine was broken and the woman behind the bar said she was working alone till 6:00 pm. She was none too cheery. At least they were open since most of Shanklin was shut on a Friday afternoon, hence the 2 stars instead of 1.

Good food, cheap. Great location. Ales not so good, they only had one on tap today. Great selection of gin.

A nice quiet pub situated in Old Shanklin. Either sit inside or outside (limited seating outside). With lovely pub food or a more substantial meal, all tastes amazing and is very fresh.A great selection of drinks for adults and children.Well worth a visit and after your meal you can visit the Christmas shop across the road, open all year round
